Faculty Leadership Institute

Page Content

The FLI aims to build an interdisciplinary community that cares about leading and professional development. We invite faculty applicants who are already in leadership positions within the university (programs, schools, committees) or in professional organizations, as well as faculty who are considering taking on leadership positions. Both junior and senior faculty are welcome to apply.

FLI Faculty Fellows will develop leadership skills applicable to all levels at the university and within the professional landscape. The FLI will include training and lectures from on and off-campus leaders, and workshops and supplementary readings on the following topics:

  • leadership theories
  • strengths analysis
  • conflict management
  • communication skills
  • collaborative leadership
  • strategic leadership
  • advocacy
  • personal and professional goal-setting

FLI faculty fellows will gain skills, knowledge, and resources that are transferable to varied dimensions of their faculty careers, from research productivity to involvement in their professional discipline to formal leadership opportunities on campus.

The FLI is scheduled for Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The fall and spring semesters include bi-monthly meetings on Mondays from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. The summer semester includes an online discussion board based on readings and community building meet ups. The 2025 institute will begin with an all-day retreat on January 15, 2025 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. FLI Faculty Fellows are required to participate in the opening retreat and in all three terms.
