Nursing (Nurse Anesthesia) - Doctorate
Is Nurse Anesthesia the right career for you?
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are educated to practice autonomously and provide anesthesia in every practice setting. As sole anesthesia providers in most rural areas, CRNAs meet the population's needs, providing safe, competent, quality care to those we serve. At Southern Miss, you will be educated and prepared to take on a role beyond the operating room. Anesthesia and the education is fast paced, intense, and requires a high level of critical thinking.
Outcomes
Evidence-based practice is the foundation for our nurse anesthesia program. Graduated student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) are adept at synthesizing knowledge, critical thinking, and have demonstrated competency in their clinical skills and all aspects of anesthesia care. Prepared to practice in a the professional role of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), patient safety is the foremost concern. Our DNP program prepares the SRNA for professional service, advocacy, and leadership roles. Additionally, interpersonal communication skills are developed and honed during the program of study.
Faculty/Student Engagement
Student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) benefit from a low student to faculty ratio at Southern Miss. DNP project mentoring, active learning, simulation experiences, and one-on-one faculty mentoring are a few of the benefits at Southern Miss. We also utilize peer-mentoring for simulation, skill development, and social introduction. We plan to incorporate tutoring in 2019.
