Marine Science Hydrography
Marine Science Hydrography
Mapping the Ocean Floor
As a hydrographer, you'll board our research vessels to explore the depths of oceans and waterways, uncovering hidden secrets beneath the surface. Using advanced technology, you'll map underwater terrains, discover ancient shipwrecks, monitor environmental changes, or locate valuable underwater resources. Playing a pivotal role in safe navigation, historical preservation, and sustainable development.
What Will I Learn?
As you become proficient in hydrographic survey methods, you'll measure and describe the physical features of oceans and waterways.
You'll learn about or engage in:
- data analysis
- geographic information systems (GIS)
- Hands-on experience aboard research vessels
- Hands-on Experience: With a focus on hands-on experiences, you'll get the chance to work on cutting-edge projects alongside experienced faculty. These research projects often involve the use of advanced hydrographic equipment and technology, preparing you for real-world applications.
-
Pursuing a Masters: If graduating with a B.S Marine Science (Hydrograhy), you'll have an excellent pathway to continue your education and engage in advanced research through USM's Hydrographic Science MS program. It offers a comprehensive curriculum that builds on your undergraduate knowledge and provides specialized training in hydrographic science.
