Providing Pathways to Computing & Cybersecurity Education

Our community outreach programs boost tech sector diversity and provide pathways to tech education in Mississippi.

Through collaborative efforts with partners including the National Center for Women and Information Technology, Mississippi Coding Academies, and Mississippi State University鈥檚 Bulldog Bytes, we are broadening participation in computing by recognizing girls with computing aspirations, abilities and technical accomplishments; provide alternative pathways to computing and cybersecurity education; and more!

K-12 Co-curricular

Cyber to the Top is our K-12 outreach program that provides summer camp and other co-curricular activities. By engaging our youth with safe and fun active learning activities in computing and cybersecurity, we believe we can widen and diversify the pipeline of technical talent in the United States.

Cyber to the Top

Cyber to the Top is our K-12 outreach program that provides summer camp and other co-curricular activities.

We recently partnered with Thinking Media to offer the Learning Blade platform to schools throughout Mississippi.

Learning Blade is a supplemental STEM and Computer Science toolbox of interactive online lessons, ready-to-use lesson plans and classroom activities proven to increase STEM and CS career awareness for middle school students.

Learning Blade is provided to Mississippi schools by USM, in collaboration with the MS Department of Education, with funding from Governor鈥檚 Emergency Education Response (GEER) Fund program.

Upskill and Reskill Training Pathways

Beyond the education provided for the emerging workforce through our academic degree programs, the School of CSCE is involved with providing alternative pathways to computing and cybersecurity education in the state.

USM has partnered with the Mississippi Coding Academies to offer a new training program on the Gulf Coast. The program includes skills development for full-stack software development and cybersecurity defense. Participants will be prepared for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. USM is a CompTIA Academic Partner.

Cyber4Work Program

USM is offering cybersecurity awareness training and more advanced cyber training to veterans, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, and residents of the Mississippi Delta region. This project is funded through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
